Super Baby!

This is Jacob's (and my) favorite post-bath activity.

It's a hat, it's a cape, it's freedom from mommy's lotion regimen. What's not to like?

The Face

Jacob "the face" Hutchison is one cute little fellow. I have maintained, in private circles, for a long time that his little face is inexplicably carved out of very cute, kissable clay. Serious. Anyway, he has a very funny little face he pulls lately. The Alabama Hutches call it his "strong man". I guess I would say it's his "smiley strong man". (Bear in mind that he is holding that super smile so rigidly and with such joy that he's trembling...I will post a video of these tricks soon.)

He also had some good ol' regular smiles all over the place at "Monkey Joe's". I thought the name sounded dreadful, but for $5 Jacob bounced himself silly. And I mean si-leee.

Anyway, not much big stuff to report, just his big smiles and his continued quest for reverence.

Check it.

Out.

Halloween Night

We had a happy Halloween. I was going CRAZY with my thesis (which, by the way, is all done and awaiting the defense in a few weeks), so I sent Matt to go get the Halloween candy. I was not disappointed. Serious.

Butterfingers. KitKats. Take 5s.

Machoo stepped up. Mmmm.

I had been imagining Jacob's costume for a few months, but had put off actually making it until the night o' Halloween. I don't recommend it. However, I think we pulled off a cute look.

Jacob got used to the scarecrow look when we went to the pumpkin patch.

(Which, by the way, was not quite the picture taking mecca that everyone claimed...mainly because he was a lot more interested in the parking lot than he was in the pumpkins.)

Back to Halloween. Jacob had his pre-costume outfit on.

He rolled around on the couch for a while.

And then he read scriptures to off-set the evil nature of Halloween.

Here's the finished product! I think he's too big for those overalls, what do you think? Jacob was a scarecrow (which we found out is exactly what Matt was for his second birthday...all that straw hair). Matt and I were crows. Get it? Get it? Huh? Huh?

Check out the fine detail on those cuffs utilizing my favorite hemming/sewing tool, packing tape. Just ask my mom! (Let it be known that my mom does not condone my use of packing tape, but she still loves me.)

The costume stayed on for about half a minute, which I guess should make me feel better about making it last minute. Someday, someday he'll care.

Jacob's Trip to Grandma's House

That's right, folks. Jacob packed his bags and headed to Alabama for a couple of days last week.

I had to finish my thesis (which I did) and he had to play, play, play with Grandma and Grandpa Hutch. Someone once told me (Matt) that they don't like posts with lots of pictures. But I really had a hard time deciding which pictures to post. So, here's to a 24 picture salute to Grandma's house.

Jacob, Bullet and a very lovely tennis ball.

More with the tennis ball.

Even more with the tennis ball.

Still more with the tennis ball.

Phew, finally he dropped that tennis ball...and his pants! It was a balmy 75-ish degrees so Jacob got to enjoy Grandma and Grandpa's beautiful new deck feelin' free and easy.

Grandma labelled this one, "getting ready for naps". I assume she meant Jacob and Bullet were preparing for naps, but if she is like me she was preparing for her own little snooze as well.

Trouble in the Zinnia patch.

They also had a beautiful southern rainstorm the first night Jacob was there. I love seeing him feel the breeze before "the rain a came a tumblin' down".

Watching the rain from the garage.

Watching the rain from the porch.

Watching a Rodney Dangerfield bobblehead at Grandaddy's office.

A proud grandaddy showing off his first grandbaby.

Grandm Jan and Jacob at the lake getting ready to play, play, play.

Do you really need a caption for this one?

Or this one?

Who did she get to take this picture?

Someone SERIOUSLY loves slides.

I think Jacob looks like he's got his funk on here.

In the car...he's just grateful they're not driving the long drive to Anniston yet.

Cute!

Double cute!

Aaaaawwwwww.

As you can see, Jacob had a wonderful time with his Grandparents. We're so grateful to them for being willing to take him so that "that dern thesis" or "my labor of hate" (as I affectionately call my thesis these days) could finally be completed. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

In addition to all this fun, he also came home with some new skills that we'll put on a future post. And yes, Jacob did dress up for Halloween, etc. and we'll be posting those someday soon.

Love/Hate?

No. Love/Love.

Babies still are a nice way to start people! We promise! Keep reading!

We'd like to tell our vast readership that we're sorry for the great post dearth of 2006 (7 days). We will try to be better, but until either my thesis gets defended (November) or Matt decides to grace this blog with another post (unlikely without lots of prodding from the masses) I make no guarantees.

On an unrelated note, doesn't Jacob look cute at the beach?

Thanks to all those who are still sticking with the hutchfam.

Ummmm

That's great, but I wonder when Jacob's appointment is!

Also, HAPPY 16 MONTH BIRTHDAY J-MAN! We love our baby boy.

(This picture was taken during a seer sucker spree/photo shoot we had in California. Cuteness, huh?)

This haircut hurt momma's heart (and index finger). I think I'll miss those locks. Sigh.

We've been (something)-in'

Mama's been studyin' (and making a big mess).

Jacob's been playin' (and making a big mess).

And Jacob has also been really, really, REALLY cute and photogenic (-in').

All of this studying and playing wouldn't have been possible without Grandma Jan coming this weekend to save us from the big scary thesis-monster. ("It had two heads, I tell ya'! Two heads! It picked me up with its miiiind powers and shook me like a dawg!") As you can see, we needed saving! Thanks again Grandma! We love you!

Oh yes, and Matt's been truckin' right along. (In his own very supportive, handsome way.)
