Movement Class Tats

Jacob and I are signed up for a movement class. We went this week, and let me tell you, there was a rough crowd in there. So rough that Jacob decided to get these babies to prove he could hang with the Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation peeps.

Please note: If "tats" is a bad word um, please let me know. Just so you know I am using it in the "prison tats" sort of way. Thank you.

Also, J really did love the class. Most of the other kids were quietly sitting in their mothers' laps looking shy while Jacob was running arond the room like a mad-man. He spent quality time flirting with a lovely Asian mother and flirting with himself in the mirror.

Lastly, when we looked at this picture Matt turned to me and asked, "Do you cut his toenails?" Ummmmmm, yeah! Do you think they cut themselves? I guess what happens during the day, stays during the day.

It's a Boy!............For Natalie & Brent!

William Jackson Barnes
25 January 2007
12 lbs. 8 oz.
20 1/2 inches

We are so happy for you guys and for our whole family. What a sweet little fellow. Good luck in these first few weeks! You can do it! Congratulations!

Now, we did have a question for Natalie. A lot of people (a LOT of people) have commented on how much Jacob looks like Matt.

Allow us to ask this question in the immortal words of Unkie Garrett. During the first week of Jacob's life he turned to me and asked, "Robyn, how does it feel?" (pause) I was touched by this question and was fashioning a lovely response about what it was like to be a young mother, how my many birth injuries were healing, etc. when he added, "I mean, do you feel like you're changing your husband's diaper?"

So Natalie, how does it feel?

We love you guys!

Something Missing

I remember I put on my socks,
I remember I put on my shoes.
I remember I put on my tie
That was painted in beautiful purples and blues.
I remember I put on my coat,
To look perfectly grand at the dance,
Yet I feel there is something
I may have forgot –
What is it? What is it?...

Pink or Blue?

We don't know! We decided to be surprised with the gender of our second baby. We did it with Jacob and absolutely loved it. It's a turbo surprise. But we did have a sonogram this morning to detemine other various sundries about the baby. Here's what we found out.

1. Our baby has two arms, two legs and apparently the right numbers of fingers and toesies.

2. It has two hemispheres in its brain and a developing cerebellum.

3. This little baby's heart is ADORABLE. It is a squashy little four chambered miracle.

4. Matt and I both fancy ourselves budding sonogram "artists" (or whatever you call those peeps). As such, we consider ourselves capable of viewing the sonogram and determining the gender...I think it's a boy and Matt thinks it's a girl (he's wrong).

5. Jacob does not enjoy seeing his "attention getting enemy number 1" and was fussy the whole time. However, when we got home his fever from the night before had returned, so perhaps that was the problem. Jealousy is still being considered as the culprit though.

6. Finally, we found out that our baby has super-spindly chicken legs. Check out the one appendage visible in this picture, is that a thin thigh or what? He must take after his momma. (Hahahahah.)

Feel free to tell us what you think we're having and to air your grievances about us not finding out.

What to say

I've been sitting at this computer for a while now trying to think up something to write. It's not that Jacob isn't cute enough.

'Cause obviously he is. Or that nothing's going on. I just don't have much to say! So, um, I guess that's all.

Gather 'round. Lemme tell you a little story.

Matt just criticized my recent blogs. He claimed that there weren't enough "stories" or some such nonsense. Well, I'll tell you a mystical story of Jacob's hair. Jacob and I went outside on a cold, blustery day. The wintry weather nipped at our noses and toeses. With such a chill on the air I reasoned that Jacob would be most comfortable in his warm, winter hat. After passing a delightful hour outside with Tow-Mater and some tennis balls we went inside for our snack. Upon removing his jacket and hat I noticed that Jacob, indeed, had "hat hair". I grabbed for the camera and took the above picture. And we all lived happily ever after. (And Jacob wears more than that Cookie Monster shirt...I promise.)

Where's yooooooooooooour...

...head.

...cheeks.

...feet.

...tummy.

...ear.

...nose.

...mouth.

Jacob is so quick to answer questions about where his body parts are that just now, when I read this post to Matt for his opinion, Jacob (who was reading a book from Grandma Great at the time) quietly found his head, cheeks, etc. again. He even does it when he hears me ask him on a video.

We say "jump", he says "how high", right?

Shoo fly, don't bother me. I'm reading!

I think I'll find a nook
curl up and read a book.
Some nice and quiet spot,
Someplace where that fly is not.

That little ditty is from our "Shoo Fly" book, which Jacob loves. I am always finding him secreted away playing with a toy or book (or hymnbook). That makes it sound like I leave him unsupervised for long stretches of time. Not so, he just likes his quiet time and is quick to grab the chance to enjoy it.

Número Dos

For those of you who don't know, we are 'spectin'. We feel so blessed and excited (and nervous?) about it all.

We tried to tell Jacob, but he didn't really care to listen. (La, la, la, la...)

But we 'spect that by June he'll be more excited.

Note: I could say that the lack of consistent posts is due to my delicate state, but that would be a lie. I won't say you should expect a higher posting frequency, but know that I'm shooting for more than one post every two weeks. But at least I've posted more than once every few MONTHS (Jana and Andrea...for shame!).
