In Sickness and In Health

I realized today that I hadn't posted the pictures of poor little sick Jacob. As I mentioned before, he was only happy in our arms awake and asleep. He and I actually took two hour-long naps cuddled up on the couch...a feat I never imagined possible with our little squirmer. Thankfully Grandma Jan was able to come and make us dinner, stock our fridge, and keep me from going crazy on the worst day of it all. She was a tremendous support. Thank you!

After four days of this sort of behavior we wondered if we'd ever get our silly little boy back.

Um, we did.

Jacob, can you hide your eyes?

Yes, mommy, why yes I CAN!

Cuddling 101

We took this picture last week. A simpler week, really. Jacob was reasonably well (despite recently getting over his second cold of '07) and momma was still battling her sinuses, but with modest success. We couldn't believe how cute and sweet he looked in this picture all cuddled up next to his daddy.

"How amazing to see him lay still!", and "I wish he'd cuddle like this with us more," we said.

Little did we know that we would get our wish. J's been sick with some sort of cold/stomach bug hybrid, and for a few days has only wanted to cuddle in our arms and drift off to sleep on the couch with us. And while the cuddles have been nice, we are anxious for less sickness & snuggle-time and more of pretty much any kind of belligerence, independence and/or heck-raising from him (see entire blog). We'll publish some pics of cuddly ol' sick-man Jacob once our house of sickness and convalescence is on the mend. Hopefully we'll see you soon!

Outbreak!

An outbreak of cuteness, that is. This is a favorite activity of Jacob's. (Thanks Shayleen!) I put the stickers on as fast as I can and then he picks them all off. It's also a great church activity as the stickers aren't nearly sticky enough to be permanent and it keeps him very quiet and focused.

Another favorite pastime of Jacob's is playing on the couch. At first I was not too pleased with his fascination with the couch, but now I love it. It's mainly because of this little move he does. He puts his cheek against the back of the couch and looks at me sitting on the other end...then ta da! He throws his head in the other direction and gives me a BIG FAT CHEESY GRIN. Then he just repeats the whole process about ten times. Here he is in the cheesy grin mode.

It is so cute and makes me laugh so hard. I also love this little move because the first time he did it was a day I was feeling pretty sick, and I think he did it to cheer me up. Like I say, an outbreak of cuteness and sensitivity.

He's cute AND useful!

When we moved into our lovely, spacious three bedroom, two bath home (in case we have to sell it on our way to Chicago) both of our bathrooms had toilet paper holders. In the course of two months both of them had fallen off. Why, you ask? Are the Hutches rough with their bathroom fixtures? Do they buy 20 ply toilet paper? The answer is that (in this beautiful home in a desirable neighborhood) the previous owner never looked for studs in which to drill or used anchors with which to anchor un-studded screws. Soooooo, we've been putting our toilet paper on the back of the toilet for one long year. It has been rough, let me tell you. Jacob must have seen us weeping about our hardship, because notice his ingenious idea to help us! As generous an offer as it is, we think for the sake of staying hygenic we will decline. But what a good little problem solver!
