Where has my little baby gone...long time passing...

Yes, in the (adapted) words of Pete Seeger, where has he gone? I found this video taken in November the other day and fell in love all over again. I know it's long and not much happens in it, but it's amazing to see this now expressive boy be so relatively new and quiet. I could barely get an ah-goo out of him back then. As I write this he is simultaneously pulling up to my knee, flashing me a winner smile, babbling incessantly, and pulling the mouse off of the desk. And now he's off to the kitchen to play with his favorite tupperware. Enjoy.

To the Daddy of the Mack Daddy

Here's a little something Jacob did for his daddy. (Be warned, I should have stopped filming much sooner than I did... and he always crawls up my body... and I often wear ankle socks.)

Of course, this isn't near as cool as what Jacob-man did for me. He said "ma ma" on my birthday! If you don't believe me, our friend Will is the only person besides Matt & me to witness him doing so. Of course, he said it three times and has not done it since. Nontheless, what a thoughtful and miraculous birthday present. But I guess this is kindof cool anyway, enjoy Da da!

Offerings to the baby gods

We all know that Jacob rules both literally and figuratively. Here are just a few examples of the demands he places upon his subjects (Matt & me).

Today Jacob and I had a 15 minute drive to make...not too much to ask right? We even had the vocal stylings of Jim Weiss reading The Chosen to us. I was content with hearing about Danny Saunders' struggles to reconcile his thirst for knowledge with his Hasidic Jewish faith. Jacob, obviously, was not. I began chucking toys back to him and singing to him a few minutes into the ride. He would pick the toy up, give it a stare and then uncerimoniously toss it away. I had insulted him with my pitiful offering. I searched and searched in the diaper bag and in my purse. I would have given him my keys if I hadn't needed them to drive. I sent back half my purse and the entire diaper bag. Needless to say, this ensued...

Another example of Jacob's demands are his Cheerios. The man loves them, and would eat them all day if I'd let him. Now mommy loves walks with Shayleen & Natalie, so we have struck a deal. I keep a steady stream of Cheerios coming his way and he keeps a steady stream of smiles coming my way. Look closely...

And yes, those Cheerios are still there from yesterday.

It is obvious that Jacob rules supreme in Hutchison-dom. And why wouldn't he? Look at him!

Oh yeah, he also has his own parking space.

The other night 'round dinner time

As I looked at Jacob's big beautiful eyes, behind a smattering of green beans, I saw heaven. It was a great moment when time kind of slowed down, and we gazed into each other's eyes. And of course I had to preserve the moments in film...after enjoying them for myself. Truly, truly this baby is a special, beautiful & expressive little man. (Ten points to whoever spots his two front teeth.)

What flavor of ice cream would you like, ma'am?

When you have a seer sucker suit (thanks Grandma Jan)...

...a very cutesy, pastel sort of holiday (the candy is for mommy & daddy, not baby)...

...and a baby as cute as this...

...you'd be a fool not to do this...

Vaudeville baby!

Alas, I have no pictures of him with the jacket off and the suspenders in all their glory, but I'll get one up soon. By the way, the tie is rust resistant, I wonder why!?!

Attack of the Yeah-ing Baby

Jacob has said his first mimic. I can't say it's a word, but it's definitely a mimic. Maddie, around this age, mimicked "oh look"...which was adorable and very indicative of what Jana & Grandma said about everything they pointed out to Maddie. Jacob has found a linguistically simpler word to mimic..."Yeah". Intonation and all. I thought it was simply a new babble, but I have since realized that I say yeah ALL THE TIME. "Do you want to read a story? Yeah? Uh huh?" "Do you want some bananas? Yeah? Uh huh?" "Are the bananas good? Yeah? Uh huh?" Etc., etc., etc. Expect "uh huh" to follow. So, without further ado, feast your ears on Jacob and mommy's "yeahs".
Just one more ado, notice how he is mauling me to get the camera...very determined.

If you're Meredith, you might not want to read this

That's right Meredith. For you I say, "I have a lovely, organized, critter-free houshold. Rainbows and sunshine." Now please, stop reading.

Yesterday Jacob and I played with our friend Olivia for a while in Jacob's room. During our playtime I noticed an undeniable fact: Jacob's room really needed to be vacuumed. After Olivia went home I decided to do the deed. I put Jacob in his crib with lotsa toys and commenced picking up all of the blocks and wooden train pieces that littered the floor. Once that was done I wandered over to the vacuum. Meredith, I really mean it, stop reading! I grabbed the handle and pulled it backwards and saw, to my horror, a lizard! Dun dun dun... I yelled out in shock and promptly clapped my hand over my mouth. I knew a lizard in my house was one thing, but I knew that a lost lizard in my house would only lead to me going slowly insane (within about a day or so). Soooo, I tip toed over to a handy dandy tupperware and tip toed back and caught it. Phew. I then weighted the tupperware down with two big Costco sized cans o' formula to wait for my big strong Machoo to take him back to our woodsy back yard. I had visions in the meantime of coming back to find the tupperware overturned and the formula cans strewn about the floor. This would have been a miracle, as the lizard was no more than 4 inches long, but it also would have been a great story. A mythic story.

Mr. Lizard is now safely in our overgrown back yard

and Mr. Jacob's unbelievably busy room is now vacuumed.

Note: to any possoms, snakes or birds that live in my backyard that may check this blog: please, please, please do not come into my house. I will instantly go insane if you do and Jacob and I will be forced to go screaming wildly out of the house without the cell phone, keys or diaper bag. Don't leave us homeless.

Also, Meredith doesn't want to read this because she's visiting us in two weeks! Don't nobody tell her 'bout the lizard, okay?

You're going to wish I didn't learn how to do this...

He's a Swingin' Mo'sheen

Jacob and I went to the park last week with a bunch of friends. Jacob found his favorite friend at the park, Mr. Swing!

He even got some pushes from one of his other favorite friends, Miss Olivia!

Here's our group of moms and kids. Note Jacob's intent stare at me as I take this picture.

Am I alone in this, or does Jacob look terribly cute swinging from behind? Look at his little elephant ankles. Shayleen looks cute too!

Hey, Olivia looks cute too!

It's possible that the park makes everyone look cute. But do you know what makes Jacob look crazy cute?

Sunglasses!

Tough guy, huh?

Jacob has started doing this...

and this...

and this...

and this.

Okay, so they're all basically the same action, but each one's so cute! I think he looks like a pretty tough little dude. We have a feeling he'd like to get the spoon from us and attack his food (and anyone within a ten foot radius).

Watch as Maddie does this very thing. From a tidy, innocent little pudding treat to...

Dun dun dunnnnn ...this!

No, no Jacob. No spoons for you yet. Just bide your time, play nice and plan your evil food slinging.

Broah ha ha ha ha! (Do you think Jacob could already have his very own maniacal laugh?)
