My Baby Float

What Jacob didn't get to do in the ocean, he made up for in the pool. Daddy & Grandpa bought him a floatation device dubbed "my baby float"...enjoy watching my baby float.

It was also in the pool that we realized that Jacob knows how to "bow to his sensay" a la Napoleon Dynamite.

Who looks like they're ready to get out?

Dudes

My dudes.

Banana Seats, Longhorn Handlebars, and Foot Brakes

Foot brakes, I tell you.

We took a jaunty ride 'round our hotel and felt like kids again. Literally. I fancy myself a bike rider now, but my biking glory days were around '88. Those were sweet times.

Here are some more sweet times.

We're off to the sandlot to play some ball.

Bubble Boy goes to the Beach: Part I

This beach trip was complicated by the fact that Jacob, Daddy & Mommy all had colds. So, Jacob was under special instructions from the nurse. First and foremost was sun exposure. While other little babies and toddlers ran around in trunks or bathing suits, Jacob sported a wide brimmed SPF 50 hat, a T-shirt and had SPF 45 sunscreen wherever the sun did shine. So, I give you, Bubble Boy.

Grandma Jan, otherwise known as the paparazzi.

Watch Jacob's expressionless first experience with the water. And no, we didn't use that pacifier again that day.

Jacob loved crawling on the sand. He played with it lots and ate (medicinally) a little.

The Beach

This past week our family vacationed in Destin, Florida. We had hoped to escape the ever lurking paparazzi, but, obviously, we weren't successful.

These people will stop at nothing to take our personal moments and make them public. As frustrated as we are, we do have Jacob's college fund to think about. So, we have sold the rights to the pictures of our week at the beach to this blog for an undisclosed (huge) sum.

Please enjoy the many authorized beach posts to come.

Mother, I love you;

mother, I do.

Father in Heaven has sent me to you.

When I am near you,

I love to hear you

Singing so softly that you love me too.

Mother, I love you;

I love you,

I do.

Happy Mother's Day to all of our mothers, grandmothers and nurturers along the way. We love you.

Not your newborn's ER visit

Yes, we took Jacob to the ER, but before you get worried and start thinking his onesie has lost its snaps, here's a brief overview.

1. Mommy and Jacob were playing in Mommy & Daddy's room.

2. Jacob knocked some books off Mommy's nightstand.

3. Jacob played one foot away from Mommy with his back turned to her.

4. Mommy noticed Jacob smacking his lips in his usual "something's in my mouth that ought not to be there" sort of way.

5. Mommy decided not to use her cat-like reflexes as she took a slow approach to do a mouth sweep.

6. Jacob GULPED.

7. Mommy heard said GULP and worried about what he could have swallowed and looked behind him to see...A PAPERCLIP!

8. Mommy called the doctor and explained the situation and the doctor said he needed an x-ray, "just to be sure".

9. Daddy, Mommy & Jacob ended up in the waiting room at Scottish Rite Children's Hospital watching Monsters Inc. and playing this game for a couple of hours.

(It obviously got old for Jacob after a little while.)
10. After stretching Jacob out like he was on the rack on the x-ray table, as he wailed and wailed, we found out that Jacob had nothing metallic in his belly.
Phew, double phew.

Warning: What you are about to read the washing machine companies don't want you to know

That's right folks, if you have a baby

and if you have any of the following items:

Baby socks

Foot rattles

Hand cover-ma-jigs

Half finished Halloween costumes

even more hand cover-ma-jigs (I put this pic because he looks so sweet and so waxy)

Baby hats (check out that funky newborn rash) and yet another hand cover-ma-jig

Baby knee socks

Or, the essential in any baby's wardrobe, Alabama booties

then ANY AND ALL OF THESE THINGS can clog a veeery expensive pump in your washing machine. So, while Bill Gates is not giving away is fortune, nor will you have good luck by sharing this with seven people, please...LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKE (and please send this to seven mothers you love...ha ha). Always put sockies and such in a net bag. Because if you don't you'll be sad, broke and with a lot of dirty laundry. Don't ask how we know this.

For those of you who need more "convincing" check out the thug we'll send to your house (any Friday or Saturday night for a few hours) to "lean on you" to help change your mind.

Where's Aunt Merr-diff?

This week we enjoyed a visit from Meredith!

When I say enjoy, I mean enjoy. Truly, Meredith is such a wonderful houseguest! She wasn't afraid of domestic wildlife concerns, she helped me with EVERYTHING, and she was a delight to spend time with. Jacob, on the other hand, was not. He started sleeping poorly the day before she came and the grumpies were in full sway when she arrived. So, Meredith had to repeat the mantra, "Grumpy Jacob is better than no Jacob at all" a lot for the first couple o' days. He finally got nappin,' and subsequently smilin', and things were peachy.

Feast your eyes on the great and small happenings during Meredith's time in the ATL...

Jacob apparently went to clown school, because he woke up from a nap with a perfect red circle on his cheek.

Meredith celebrated her graduation with us, and with a german chocolate cake bedecked with a graduation bobble head doll that bore a striking resemblance to our own graduate! Check it.

Meredith and I went to a Braves game. We got to see the ill effects of alcohol on sports fans and we got to give a standing ovation to Mr. Julio Franco. Way to go Julio! We miss you. At least Robyn does.

Meredith learned how to do the "Tomahawk Chop" as the master (Matt) does it.

I got a really vacant look on my face and realized that I should probably consider whitening my teeth.

Jacob got progressively more cranky and we realized that it was possibly due to spot of constipation. So we broke out the lotion and gave him a massage, rubbed his tummy in a clockwise fashion (thanks Chelsea), gave him water, and plopped him in the bouncer for some "vibration therapy". Once things got moving he was MARKEDLY happier.

We went shopping and got Meredith some kickin' working girl outfits.

Mommy realized that the shorts she bought Jacob are really "longs".

We went to the Coke Museum.

By the end of the tour we were both desperate for a Co'cola and we definitely imbibed...as evidenced by the two very loopy videos below.

We lova da Coke. Or at least we ended up feeling so after all that sooooda (and shameless Coke propaganda that we paid $9 to go see). Thanks to Shayleen and Aaron for watching Jacob so we could go babyless.

We found out Jacob has a squeaky nose.

Jacob fell in love with Mere.

Meredith taught Jacob how to do the "Tomahawk Chop" and we finally tried (read: squeezed) this Andruw Jones 'fit on him.

Man, Jacob has no respect.

We realized that Jacob has a huge head and tiny feet.

All in all we had a wonderful time and Jacob loves his Aunt Merr-diff. Mommy loves her too. Thanks for such good times Mere. We miss you!
