Pumpkins

A few weeks ago I took the boys to a pumpkin patch. (By the way, I LOVE saying "the boys". As in, "the boys are asleep" or "the boys are adorable" or "the boys are driving me crazy".) I have had a "the boys are driving me crazy" sort of day, so my comments will be few. Check out the autumn goodness.

And you ask where was Nicholas during this outing? Need you ask?

Katie showed up half-way through. She is such a fun friend. She and Jacob spent time investigating what they thought was a "strawberry". Can you see it?

They were very uptight being in the wagon together, but they certainly liked pulling each other.

Katie's mom, Katharine, and I have long noticed that Katie loves to follow Jacob's lead. They walked along these hay bales like little soldiers.

These two are so close I would say they are more like cousins than friends.

Nicholas woke up and provided some of the sweetest little faces imaginable.

And his pants were very, very high-waisted.

Sick

Read this:

"I cannot go to school today,"
Said little Peggy Ann McKay,
"I have the measles and the mumps,
A gash, a rash, and purple bumps.
My hip hurts when I move my chin,
My belly button's caving in...--what?
What's that? What's that you say?
You say today is---Saturday?
G'bye, I'm going out to play!"

-Shel Silverstein

Now watch these:

The power of poetry. (Or the power of a little boy asking for the same poem over and over and over again on our walks.) (Or the power of Jacob's brilliance.)

Nick-las seeep

That's how Jacob informs me that Nicholas is asleep. On our vacation Nicholas proved to be a remarkably portable sleeper. He, of course, slept often in the "moby". But he also slept on our bed at the hotel room, in our arms and on the beach. Enjoy!

(Also, we do not regularly put our baby down on his tummy, but since we were right next to him we felt OK with it.)

Sleep face!

I hesitate putting this in (what with me in a bathing suit, etc.) but I love the totally confused look on his face. Where am I?!?

He is also so, so sweet fully awake!

Bubble boys go to the beach

A long time ago, when Matt and I were younger and more carefree, we went to the beach. We used store brand sunscreen. Matt was BURNED TO A CRISP and consequently intolerable the entire trip. (Forget about how he felt!) Knowing that my boys potentially inherited their father's complexion and temperament, we left nothing to chance.

Lookin' cool in wide brimmed hats.

Okay, so that's about all the creativeness I've got tonight. If you saw the status of my house you'd ask me how I can justify even posting! Okay, it's not that bad, but there is a mighty large scrum of diapers at the door to the garage...which one will make it to the garbage can just outside the door first?!?! (And no, there are no poopies in that scrum. Those each get their own plastic bag and are promptly disposed of.)

The trip was wonderful and the beach was incredible. And here are some pics to prove it.

Unstyled example of my new hair-cut. I love!

Thank you Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Rachel and Unkie Garrett!
