A perfect storm

After spending three days looking at apartments in Chicago I have pretty much decided never to spend money on anything ever again. We returned from Chicago late Saturday night. The next morning we went to church without really thinking about Jacob's hair. It was bad. Very, very bad. Long, crazy and bumpy. I played with it fruitlessly all during church in hopes of taming it. It would not tame! I was frustrated at myself for not combing it before church. Later that evening, however, I saw this picture Grandma Jan took while she selflessly took care of the boys for our financially depressing trip.

Oh my goodness. How did it escape my notice that Jacob's hair is nuts. Granted this was what it looked like after going down a slide...but please believe me it's not a far cry from his Sunday look. No amount of combing can fix a mess like that.

So, frugality mixed with need led to this.

I know that in this picture he looks smiley and cute and cleaned up. Alas, I thought so too. But it's bad. It's almost take him to a professional to fix it bad. Sorry son.

I'm still learning with this haircutting thing. Someday I'll learn how to not cut the "bangs" too straight or too crooked.

i think his hair looks adorable. i'm sure i told you but cutting hair is beyond stressful for me. i would say i average 2-3 hours cutting brents hair and it is pure misery the whole time. i vowed last time i'd never do it again. jacob's looks great and i bet you did it in much less time.

Hey! Everett has that same blue shirt. Gotta love the Target (please pronounce that w/a French accent).

Sorry Chicago was so depressing. I guess you have to pay the big money to live in such a neat city??

And Jacob's hair is awesome! Both before and after the cut.

Hair doesn't matter at this age. You keep obsessing about this and you're going to give that boy a hair complex! He is adorable no matter what his hair looks like.

Looks good to me. And I guess you'll have lots more practice? I hope you guys were at least able to find a decent place to shelter your heads.

K everyone has commented on the hair, but what about the Chicago apt. hunting. I hope you find what you need, want, and what will be in your price range. Don't give up.

Its NOT bad at all!!!! He sure does look happy so I think that's a good sign! :] I loved the slide photo of his static hair-that was way cute. And he is such a cutie in that nice, combed, cut hair. You did a great job, Robyn. It is a hard thing to do, I've been cutting John's hair now for I guess 4 yrs. and it still freaks me out everytime. It does get more comfortable but still I understand. I think you are doing a fabulous job though! At least you do worry about what your kids look like out in public :] Keep it up!

What's this whole scoop on Chicago!?!?!?! When are you moving? What are you doing w/ your house in GA? I need details! :] I'm sorry it was so depressing, hopefully you can find something and get things worked out. Its going to be a huge change I'm sure but things will work out for the best! I'm sure of it. Just watch some good Chicago-based movies and you'll feel better soon! :](while you were sleeping is my favorite!) Hey they've got awesome pizza and theaters to cheer you up! And baseball too....well if you like that team that is! :] Best of luck with everything & keep saving those pennies!!!!

Love, Chelsea

I've been experimenting with haircuts lately, too. I've come to the realization that I need better tools. And a less wiggly boy. ; )

good luck with finding the perfect place, I'm sure you've checked craigslist and all that. what about church members in the area you're looking at? maybe they have some ideas. I'm sure you'll find something!

It's obvious that Jacob thinks that's the best haricut he's ever been given! You did a great job Robyn - proud of ya! :] Don't worry abt apartments in Chicago too much. From what I here you'll love everything else about it. The apartment may not be ideal, but with love you can survive anything for 2 years. Right? (just think of it as a 2 year camping trip) - yuk! You know how I hate camping :D

Come on over and I'll try to give you some pointers. I've given my share of bad haircuts too, despite my Navy barber training. It looks great in the picture anyway.
