Where's my blue ox?

We have stumbled upon an uncanny resemblance between a certain american folk hero and this fine young man here.

Jacob too has acquired some amazing skills & characteristics much like the famous Paul Bunyan.

Most amazingly, their births were quite similar. But also:

He finally will relax in his car seat

He can sit assisted by a boppy

He can have (& win) staring contests with daddy

He can put mommy in a very effective head lock

He can show Winnie the Pooh who's boss

He can drool A LOT

And most importantly, he can be unbelievably cute. Something stinky ol' Paul Bunyan could never pull of.

It's a boy! But not for us...

Gideon Lee Slothower has arrived! We would love to post oodles of pictures of him here, but his parents have started a blog for him and his big sister Maddie!
It is: www.theslothowerfamily.blogspot.com
Check it out and see how cute their kiddies are.

Baby Einstein

While every parent believes and hopes that their child will be a genius and truly amount to something (and make them look like amazing parents)...we know that it is not possible for all children to be so intellectually gifted.

But we think Jacob has a good chance at genius-hood. What do you think?

I Fell Into a Burnin' Ring of Fire

Yes, Jacob was a lion for Halloween. And yes, we actually made him jump through a ring of fire!!!!

Well, not exactly...but we did make one out of red, yellow and orange felt! Matt and I were lion tamers/zoo keepers/safari people. I would have loved for Matt to be decked out in a red coat with tails and black britches as a circus lion tamer, but where can you find the gear? So we opted for more of a safari (or in my case, everyday) look with lion tamer props. We had the ring of fire, a stool to protect us from the ferocious beast and lots of candy. We considered having a whip (very lion tamer) but thought better of it. Here are some pics (the first one's a bit fuzzy) of the big "reveal" at the ward trunk-or-treat.

Jacob seemed to have a great time for a half hour and then dissolved to tears, tears and tears. But judging by this picture, we think he liked his go as a lion. Um, maybe.

But one thing we know for sure is:

He is sooooooo cute.

Awww.

Roll Cougars!

On this lovely fall Saturday afternoon I am on duty. Sports duty. Matt is away today and so it falls to me to update him on the components of a "perfect weekend".

This consists of a win for the Braves (but since they are not in the World Series I don't need to worry with them) and a win for Alabama. Oh yeah, and if he remembers the cougars, a win for BYU.

Even though Matt and I both graduated from and love BYU, the Crimson Tide are still by far Matt's team of choice. And kindof mine too. (Although my memories of having hot chocolate as I shivered through games at dad's side keep me loving those cougars.) So, Matt and I straddle two worlds and we wonder...where will Jacob's allegiance lie? Well, as long as we can dress him, we think with both! (Enjoy his collegiate duds and look closely at the details in the pictures...)

So we say to our blue and crimson teams (and grandpas), Go Tide and Roll Cougars! Or something like that.

And who knows, maybe he'll be wearing other colors someday.

Halloween Survey

I'm making a halloween costume for Jacob. It's not finished yet, but so far let me know if you think it is:

a. Puck in Midsummer Night's Dream as played in Dead Poet's Society

b. A bowl of tortilla chips

c. A lion (minus the ears)

d. A campfire

e. A pile of autumn leaves

Thanks.

rollin', rollin', rollin'

keep them doggies rollin'... rawhide

we just wanted to let everyone know that jacob has reached a new milestone. over the last couple nights, he has rolled from his back to his stomach. we'll come in his room when he wakes up to find him on his tummy. he's actually been getting close for the last couple months. many of you may know that he favors his left side. a lot. as soon as we put him in his crib when he's awake, he rolls to his left. sometimes on the floor, he'll roll left, but never has been able to get over his arm.

well, he did it last night. robyn came in this morning to find him on his tummy with his arm sticking out the slats of the crib. (we've ordered a mesh bumper pad in hopes of corralling his appendages.) but, we also wanted to see it happen for ourselves, in case our parents didn't tell us about the rolling fairies that come in the night to move your baby around his crib. this morning, he rolled all the way over loads of time. if we could somehow post a link to a movie clip (of course after we find a way to convert our videotape to a digital format), we'd show you all the rollover.

on another note, robyn and i placed an offer on a house this week. its in a great neighborhood and school zone. we're not sure if we'll be there long enough to reap the full benefit of the school zone, but the 'hood is awesome. the outside of the house isn't congruent with our dream home, but the inside is great. the floorplan is quite spacious. and we have a wetbar. not sure how we'll use it, considering..., but i'm sure we'll find a good use. robyn said a joke about a lime rickey would be good to insert here, but i'm at a loss. think of your own. oh, and did i mention they accepted the offer? you probably thought we were still waiting. we're not! we're set to close on dec 1, the last month of the lease for our current appartment. we're really excited. although broken up on occasion bythings like jacob and braves games, all we really talk about is what we'll be doing to decorate, organize, etc etc. can't wait.

well, that's all for now. i know its been awhile since i've published on this web...log...thing. so please get off my back! please!

just kidding. we love you all. well, most. some we just like a lot!

Do you miss us?

Yes, yes we have been away from the blogging scene because we have been too busy playing with/caring for our baby and continuing our quest to find a house. We think we have been successful in both...we'll keep you posted. Oh yes, and we were DEFINITELY too busy to blog at the Braves game last night! Go little Brian McCann! We digress.

But really, the meat of the blog is the pics of our cute boy (who really cares about mom and dad?). So, tomorrow we are going to buy a camera to replace:

a. the one that quit working the day we were going to the hospital to have him

b. the one we subsequently bought in a panic the day we went to the hospital that didn't take very good pictures (Jacob looked sweaty and orange with the flash and blurry, yet beautifully the right color, without it)

c. the dutiful camcorder that is doing what should never be asked of a 1 megapixel camcorder...to take snapshots. We're terribly unfeeling aren't we?

So, for all of you Jacob fans (or Jacob-ites, if you will) expect cute pictures to be here soon! Are there any of you left?

And just so you know, Jacob thinks this post is boring too...

Can you see the baby in this picture?

Step away from your computer.

Stand 5 feet away.

Squint your eyes for ummm, 15 seconds, yeah, 15 seconds, and then try to unfocus them.

We promise there's a baby in this picture, just keep looking!

We also promise that there's a man in the coffee beans (although this one is way easier than the baby one)

Haven't seen the baby yet? Well, for those of you with inferior eyes we'll show you where he is.

And while we're sure everyone got the coffee bean one, here's where that creepy bald dude is.

It's amazing how these things work. taa daaaa!

Our Week

Happy Monday everyone! We don't really have much to say, but, um, we just felt like posting!

Here are some highlights from our week:

Grandma Hutchison came and babysat Jacob while momma and daddy went to Phantom of the Opera for their anniversary. (thank you!)

His Grandaddy Hutchison had a birthday and turned...hmmm...29?

Jacob helped daddy decorate and organize his new office by guzzling 10 ounces in 4 hours.

He also helped mom and dad dabble in real estate (actually they were just trying to get over their phobia of falling trees in order to find a suitable house).

Jacob cooed his way through the primary program today. He watched mommy direct all those kiddies and was absolutely delightful...so Matt tells me.

He witnessed a near "perfect weekend" in the which the Braves swept the Marlins, Alabama beat Arkansas, but sadly BYU lost to TCU by ONE STINKING POINT!!!

And most importantly he was dern near impossibly cute each and every minute. These pictures are proof of that. Nice chair he's sitting on too, eh?
